Stake Dolan has worked as a firefighter for almost a decade. He knows he’s loud, brash, and occasionally abrasive, not that he tries to be. Sometimes, he just blurts stuff out without thinking. His thoughtless words get him in trouble, and the chief orders him to help with the clean-up of some of the local hiking trailheads. At one of them, Dolan meets Cecil Rochette. The friendly man makes a pass at him, but Dolan quickly shuts him down. A few of his fellow firefighters are gay, but he is not. Still, while he doesn’t know why, there’s something about the guy that arouses him. When Cecil keeps popping up in his path, interrupting his life, he begins to wonder what it’d be like to give in to the mischievous man’s advances. Will doing something so different be worth the price, especially when no one has been able to tolerate his mouth for long?

I have said this before, and I will say it again, I am a huge fan of this entire menagerie of books written by Ms. Richards. I have been with it since the very beginning. She has a writing style that is enjoyable, sexy and entertaining. However, the deeper we get into it the shorter they become and the details that we have come to expect from these books, just aren't there anymore. In the beginning when the shifters would explain to the new mates what being shifters and mated was all about, the shifter would ALWAYS 'show' their other side to their mate so they in turn could accept the animal...we don't get that anymore. Honestly, these past 4 or 5 books, have felt hurried and just not nearly as exciting. We get introductions, a small period of chance meetings, the shifter gets revealed, the mate just immediately accepts the entire paranormal world, they sleep together and bond, The End. It is disheartening to read the first books in the series, and then read these last few, honestly, it's almost as if it's a completely different person writing. I am disappointed.

This was great wish it had been a little longer but it was still great and I can't wait for the next book from Charlie Richards.....
I love this book. I have read it several times. It is short like her other books, but I don't feel like it was too rushed.
It seems the author switches between books with great stories and books about great sex. I've read most in this series and find every other book is worth reading.
I love all of Charlie Richards books, and this one is no exception. I love the idea of shifters and mates, and the way this author spins a tale always pulls me in right away and keeps me hooked for the whole book. I like the suspense, and I enjoy following the characters as they meet for the first time and then watching the bond between them form.
This whole series of books is done one chapter at a time, not a series of books. As a test, I read one of the "books" without the sex scenes and it took 20 minutes. There are some very good ideas used as the base for the books, but there is no follow through on the and expansion of the threads. There is a beginning explained in a few words, and an ending in a couple of paragraphs.
What made it a little different from all of the recent books was that they didn't talk much about the scientists or going after them. Which I appreciated. I know there seems to be a thought that they all need to serve some common purpose "catching a bad guy", etc. But although it was mentioned in this book, it wasn't the focus of the book like it was so much in the books of the past.

Would really just like to see more characters already mentioned in the past books find their mates. But I enjoy Charlie Richards books no matter what.
The book had 1574 locations on my kindle. The book was about 2 men, Cecil and Stake. Stake was a 32 year old straight, human fireman. Cecil was a wolf shifter and part time dental assistant. Cecil sees Stake, immediately recognizes him as his mate and quickly proceeds to ask Stake to have sex with him. The book contained an oral sex scene and a bit of detailed, descriptive anal sex. The characters were ok. Cecil was outspoken and very bold. Stake was a man, who repeatedly said the wrong thing, which consistently got him into trouble. The book felt rushed. Stake is supposedly straight, but is having sex with Cecil, the first day, they meet. Then we throw in a bit of drama, the end.
